WADSWORTH – After minimal activity throughout the winter, construction on Route 94 is expected to resume the week of March 20.
“The contractor notified us they would be starting on some storm sewer work in the area behind Wendy’s and Panera the week of March 20,” Service Director Robert Patrick said.
Patrick added that much of this year’s work will focus on the west side of the street and said the plan is for workers to begin on the south end of the corridor, just south of West Street, and work their way north throughout the construction season.
Patrick said he thinks changes to traffic patterns will be less frequent this year.
“Last year because of some utility issues the contractors had to jump around a lot,” Patrick said. “This was good because they were able to work around the utility issues and get a lot done, but it was tough for traffic management because it seemed like almost every day things were changing. That shouldn’t be a problem this year.”
Work on the intersection of Route 94 and Great Oaks Trail is expected to take place in May or June and Patrick said this is the period of construction that could cause the most inconveniences for motorists.
“They will be realigning Great Oaks Trail a little to the south so it lines up with Park Center Drive, which will help with traffic and the sequencing of the traffic light,” he said.
Patrick said the city will stay in constant communication with businesses in the area and said the contractor knows to make sure there is access to businesses in and around that intersection during construction. He added that motorists who aren’t traveling to businesses in that immediate area have the option of alternate routes. Motorists traveling east on Great Oaks Trail can turn north on to Freedom Drive and access Route 94 via Smokerise Drive. Motorists also have the option of turning east on Park Center Drive and taking Laverne Drive to the eastern portion of Smokerise Drive.
“We are looking at possibly providing some of the businesses with large maps explaining the alternate routes so they can explain to their customers,” Assistant Service Director Harry Stark said. “We are going to try to put a lot out on social media as well.”
Patrick said the city is also looking into signs to help motorists during construction.
“We want to help out motorists and businesses in that area as much as we can during construction,” he said.
