The popular mutton’ bustin’ show will return to the grand stand with Buckin’ Ohio Aug. 6 at 6 p.m.
MEDINA — Buckin’ Ohio will usher in the talent and excitement Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. with its rodeo show at the grandstand. The one-of-a-kind county fair event will feature bull riding, barrel racing, bull fighting and mutton bustin’ at $9 a seat.
Eileen Thorsell, marketing coordinator of Buckin’ Ohio Ranch in Burbank, said they are going to change things up a bit this year and begin with the introduction of their 2016 world champion Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association bucking bull, Blue Hurricane.
Shawn Thorsell, Eileen’s son and Buckin’ Ohio Ranch manager, said they will also feature their bulls, Red Bull and Brown Town.
“The caliber of livestock this year is unbelievable,” Shawn said.
Shawn said Brown Town has been to the PBR finals and even threw a rider almost to the rafters in one competition, which Columbia Broadcast Station Sports picked up and aired. Brown Town will also be the bounty bull for the winning cowboy to ride for a chance to win $1500.
After the introduction of the bulls and cowboys, they will commence the mutton’ bustin’, which Eileen said was very popular last year. Eileen said they are doing it during event this year instead of before, so people won’t miss it.
Eileen said spectators can expect top barrel racers and bull riders again this year.
“SERBA is like the minor league to Professional Bull Riders,” Eileen said. “We’re going to have guys that are in SERBA and some that are in both.”
Eileen said three of the guys coming are in the SERBA top five and PBR top 40.
Shawn, who is also the ranch’s promoter and a former professional bull rider himself, said rodeo fans can expect to see national PBR and SERBA talent like Ryan Miller, Daniel Kinsman, Marcus Mast and Lodi native Brandon Davis.
Shawn said Kinsman and Mast have been neck-to-neck fighting for the top spot every week.
“These two guys are on fire and just cannot fall off the bull,” Shawn said.
Shawn said there will be a meet and greet in the arena after the show with some of the PBR and SEBRA riders.
“It’s fun doing events where you know people and the people know you,” Eileen said. “We love our community and the Medina area is a great place to live.”
Buckin’ Ohio and their livestock ranch, Creek Bend, were nominated three times as the stock contractor of the year in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Buckin’ Ohio will host professional bull riding rodeos at the ranch Aug. 26 and Sept. 16, with a special event, Christmas on the Ranch, Dec. 2-3. It is located at 8154 Garman Road in Burbank.
