THE Fiji Times awarded the Letters to the Editor’s Letter of the Year 2022 to Lautoka resident Nishant Singh.

Mr Singh, who is a regular contributor to the Letters to the Editor column, wrote a letter titled In a state of black-out early last year, voicing his concerns about unplanned power outages largely in the Western Division.

He encouraged more people to take it as a hobby to contribute to the Letters to the Editor column as it allowed ordinary citizens to express their views on subjects that were

important to them and to the whole country.

“It gives freedom of speech and there is always healthy discussions amongst the letter writers.

“I make an attempt to contribute to the Letters to the Editor column at least thrice a week and give my view on current affairs.”

Mr Singh said he had previously won numerous Letter of the Week and Letter of the Month awards.

He said he was over the moon with the Letter of the Year award because it was his first.

“It came as a surprise and I am very grateful to the Motibhai Group

and The Fiji Times for offering me this award.

“I am also encouraging other letter writers to highlight any issue in the media so that the general public are aware of it.”

As part of his prize, Mr Singh won a Sony 50” Led Smart TV.
