A MOTHER of six has faced court after allegedly assaulting her partner in the early hours of the morning during a meltdown over their child.

Goodna resident Tarelle Bell, 34, was charged with wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm on October 13, and made an application for bail in Ipswich Magistrates Court later the same day. The court heard the partner was the father of her youngest child, aged four months old. Ms Bell allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed her partner in the forearm – causing a laceration described as being 6cm x 2cm.

During the application for bail, defence lawyer Patrick O’Donnell said Ms Bell had struggled with her mental health and had parental responsibilities she needed to attend to. Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said bail was opposed on the basis Ms Bell was an unacceptable risk of reoffending or failing to appear.

He noted her criminal history included multiple instances of failing to appear, and three convictions for possessing a knife in a public place.

Magistrate Robert Walker refused her bail and remanded her in custody to appear for committal on November 2.
