The Dallas Police Department’s top spokesperson and one of Chief Daniel Comeaux’s key hires is under investigation, the department confirmed Friday.

Comeaux declined to discuss the nature of the investigation while taking questions at an unrelated news conference at Jack Evans Police Headquarters.

The inquiry is being handled by the department’s public integrity unit, which investigates criminal conduct allegations involving city employees.

“There’s a current investigation that’s being investigated right now, and as soon as we are complete with that investigation, we’ll give everyone the information,” Comeaux said.

The spokesperson, Allison Hudson, did not return messages seeking comment Friday. WFAA-TV (Channel 8) first reported the investigation.

Hudson has not been placed on administrative leave and appeared alongside department leaders at a news conference about Wednesday’s police shooting in east Oak Cliff. She did not attend Friday’s news conference with Comeaux.

She oversees the Dallas police’s media relations and community affairs office. Her team serves as the department’s point of contact for news organizations, responding to questions about criminal investigations, police shootings and allegations of officer misconduct.

Police officials declined to say when the investigation began or what prompted it.

Hudson joined the department last year after serving at the Houston Police Department, where she helped train public information officers and led community outreach initiatives, according to the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

She reports directly to Comeaux, who also came to Dallas from Houston, where he led the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Houston Field Division.

Comeaux wrote the foreword to Hudson’s book, “The Public Trust,” which addresses crisis communication and building trust in public institutions. The book, published earlier this year, is promoted on the chief’s website.
