A man accused of attempted rape was found not guilty by jurors after a Supreme Court trial.

Nahuel Matias Sendin Saldaña, 32, had faced one charge of attempted rape, which allegedly took place at Ocean Village in April last year. He strongly denied the charge throughout the trial.

A jury of seven women and two men deliberated for around four hours and returned a not guilty verdict after a weeklong trial.

During closing submissions on Monday, Mr Saldaña’s lawyer Neil Costa had told the court there was “no evidence” his client had attempted to rape the complainant and that the “Crown’s case was demonstrably wrong”.

“Behind me is an innocent man,” Mr Costa told the court.
