The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many businesses and industries adversely, but at least one local enterprise has begun expanding its operations to cater to an ever-increasing customer base and the regulations imposed by the Government of T&T.
Established in 2017 and known for its fresh, on-the-go meals, the Presto brand is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Superpharm Ltd. Recently, the Presto team partnered with Linda’s Bakery to expand and rebrand their store at Trincity Plaza to now include fresh produce from local farmers, including: fruits and vegetables, fresh juices, drinks and chilled meats. Thus, the Presto Market convenience store was launched in Trincity last Friday morning.
CEO, Glenn Maharaj said, “By expanding to the Presto market we’ve introduced a few new components in the store because what we’re seeing is that customers are looking for convenience so we can meet the changing needs of customers, especially millennials.”
Maharaj added that given the state of the economy, it was “important to partner with local farmers and caterers to help stimulate the agriculture sector” and added that “all the produce sold in store were supplied by local farmers.”
“By introducing a concept like this we can support our local farmers and mom and pop operators who also support farmers, stimulating employment for them,” he said.
Business development manager, 23-year-old, Jean-Luc Mouttet explained that the company decided to expand in order to add more convenience and also due to the success of their first branch in Arima.
“Presto was known for the full range of ready-to-eat meals in SuperPharms, but it was decided to introduce fresh products in order to add another layer of convenience for our shoppers.
“Very often people buy their groceries once or twice a month, but for fresh produce, they find themselves having to revisit markets or groceries almost weekly. Presto now offers a next level of convenience for shoppers to quickly pop in to get the produce that they need to make tonight’s meal.”
Presto is managed by SuperPharm Ltd—a member of the Agostini group and opened its first branch inside the NP gas station located on Tumpuna Road in Arima.
