AFRICAN CHILD DESERVES
By Alex Mburu

WAKILI.SHA Initiative yesterday held a Day of The African Child celebrations in Nairobi ahead of the annual event set for June 16. Every year, stakeholders gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the full realisation of the rights of children in Africa, with this year’s theme being “Access to education for children in conflict with the law”. The Day of the African Child is commemorated in memory of the students in Soweto, South Africa, who in 1976 protested against the poor quality of education they received. Some of the notable people at the event included WAKILI.SHA founder and CEO Elizabeth Njambi, Sterling Performance Africa’s Margaret Njihia, Ushirika School executive director David Kitavi, Plan International influencing and advocacy advisor Pauline Kedogo, and International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children Africa regional project manager Athena Morgan.
