International Veda Conference to be held in Trinidad

Over 250 local, regional and international distinguished attendees in fields such as education, science, medicine, technology, politics and spirituality will be present in Trinidad to attend the International Conference on the Application of Modern Science and Vedic Science. This country will see delegates from India, the United States of America, United Kingdom, Latin America, Europe, Asia and other Caribbean islands.

The conference will be hosted by the Brahma Vidya Peetham International, in collaboration with the Maharishi Vedic University, Netherlands and Global Country of World Peace. Carrying the theme “Creating a Peaceful, Prosperous Society: Vedic Technologies for Social Improvement,” the conference will be held at the Trinidad Hilton and Conference Centre, Portof-Spain, on November 1 to 3. It is the first time the conference will be held in the Caribbean as in the past it has been held in Nepal, India and Indonesia.

What will be discussed?

As Swami Brahma Swarupananda ji, vice chancellor of Maharishi Vedic University Caribbean said: “We will explore topics on methods to reduce crime and create peacefulness for T&T and the region. The topics will incorporate relevant Vedic philosophies backed by objective, scientific data and research.

“The conference will also seek to re-enliven interest in Veda (veda means knowledge— the knowledge and organising power of nature and consciousness, knowledge of the field of pure intelligence that is the source of all the diverse fields of knowledge) in terms of the scientific reality that the application of Veda can benefit every area of human life.

“lso demonstrate how the principles of Vedic Science, advocated by Modern Science, can be applied in various fields to elevate the lives of people in the country, Caribbean and world at large.”

Local speakers at the conference include former president Anthony Carmona; Charles Jason Gordon, Archbishop of Port-of-Spain (who will speak on building a civilisation of Love); Pundit Bhadase Seetahal-Maharaj; Pundit Rampersad Parasram, Dharmacharya of Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha; Sadhvi Anandamaiyee Giri ji, General Secretary of Brahma Vidya Peetham International; and, Professor Dilip Dan, Professor of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Head of Department of Clinical Surgical Sciences, The University of West Indies, is President of the conference.

Keynote speakers include Dr Tony Nader, world-renowned neuroscientist and leader of the Transcendental Meditation Movement worldwide (founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India in the 1950’s).

Nader has successfully correlated each aspect of the Vedic Literature to a specific area of human physiology, including the cell and the DNA, with the conclusion that human physiology is the expression of the veda and vedic literature.

Additionally, Dr John Hagelin will speak. Hagelin is a world renowned quantum physicist, educator, public policy expert, leading proponent of peace, president of the David Lynch Foundation, Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy and Professor of Physics at the Maharishi University of Management, Iowa, USA.

Other speakers include Dr Jose Luis Alvarez, Head of Latin America and Caribbean for Global Country of World Peace. Dr Subramanian Swamy, politician, economist, statistician Member of Parliament, Government of India will present on economics in vedas, Dr Catherine Gorini, USA will address mathematics and vedic science and Dr John Fagan will speak on agriculture and vedic science.

An inaugural banquet will be hosted on Friday, November 1. President Paula-Mae Weekes will officially open the conference at this banquet, attendance for which is by invitation only.

On Saturday, November 2, a cultural programme—“An Evening of Wisdom and Entertainment”—will be held at NCIC, Divali Nagar main stage, Chaguanas. This event will be open to the public.

A special workshop on Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-based Education will be conducted on Sunday, November 3, and will serve as an introduction to the benefits of Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education and its effect when used in schools to aid students academically and socially.

This workshop is open to secondary school students, principals and teachers. Early registration is encouraged as there are limited spaces for this event, which will be at no cost to the student, principal or the school. The Minister of Education has been invited to participate in this programme.
