THE Cautata Bakery in the district of Bau in Tailevu has the capacity to produce 20 dozens of bread daily to cater for its customers.

The $105,000 fully equipped new bakery located in Cautata Village was officially opened by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday, an initiative to provide jobs to unemployed youths in the village.

He said the bakery would generate income in the village and the business would also uplift the quality of life.

Mr Bainimarama said the bakery was a community effort even though Government had also contributed.

“Contribution of time and money was also put in by your family and neighbours, recognising this investment will fuel the local economy,” he said.

Cautata Village development committee member Akuila Sovanivalu said they contributed $20,000 in the construction of the bakery, while the rest was catered by Government.

He said they had employed five bakers and two cashiers from the village.

“The five bakers we have employed are from the village that have attained skills in baking bread and buns.

“So daily, they produce around 20 dozens of bread and buns for our local consumers.

“The bakery manages to make a profit of $700 every week, after paying bulk of its expenses and salaries of employees.”
