MARKET vendors in Nadi are calling for the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in a bid to address theft and illicit activities.
Nadi Market Vendors Association president Lia Lawanimate said the cameras were needed to monitor activities in the market ,especially during the afternoons.
“We have a lot of people complaining about underhand dealings happening around the market like stealing and theft,” she said.
“And we also have a lot of women selling at the market and we should ensure their safety.”
The call for the installation of CCTV cameras was also raised with the Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar, who paid the vendors a visit this week.
“They were mainly concerned about the CCTV cameras,” she said.
“They feel that we need to have more CCTV cameras installed in the market. Not only because of drugs but also because of petty crimes that take place at the market.”
