In a Hockomock League clash between the conference’s leader and defending champion, senior Cullin Anastasia scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the No. 15 Mansfield boys’ soccer team to a 3-1 victory over host King Philip in Wrentham on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Jackson Murphy gave Mansfield (7-0) a 1-0 lead before the half. KP (3-5-0) knotted the game after the break, 1-1, but Anastasia converted a penalty kick 22 minutes into the second half to give Mansfield a 2-1 lead. Anastasia nailed down the win with an insurance goal nine minutes later.

Mansfield coach Steve Sheridan said the Hornets made it a priority to contain King Philip’s Tyler Mann, the Hockomock League’s reigning MVP.

Sheridan credited the defensive work of juniors Derek Meuth, Sam Nugent, and Matt O’Donnell, and seniors Harry Braidt and Nick Hyland, a captain who helped control the midfield along with Sean Lanzillo.

The Hornets continued their tenacious defensive play, allowing just seven goals in seven games.

Sheridan said it was important to defeat the defending league champion on its home field to solidify Mansfield’s place in the league standings, but there remained a sense of urgency for the Hornets going forward.

“We’re still going to keep taking it one game at a time,’’ he said.

Braintree 3, Weymouth 2 — Senior Ryan Mangan netted a pair of first-half goals and classmate AJ McMartin earned the win in his first varsity start in goal for the Wamps (5-3-2).

Pentucket 3, Ipswich 1 — Senior striker Jake Dickson notched a goal and an assist for the Sachems (6-1-1).

North Reading 1, Hamilton-Wenham 0 — Junior midfielder Ben Tayas scored in the 34th minute for his first varsity goal to lift the Fighting Hornets (2-3-2).

Nauset 10, Dennis-Yarmouth 0 — Senior captains James McCully and Ethan Craven each buried two goals for the top-ranked Warriors (7-1).

Mystic Valley 2, Essex Tech 0 — Sophomore Lukas Drahos assisted junior Steve Nguyen and senior Julian Ospina for the Eagles (6-1).

Wayland 1, Concord-Carlisle 1 — Warriors’ (4-0-3) senior captain Marco Melero scored the game-tying goal in the 54th minute for the draw.

Chelsea 2, Shawsheen 0 — Junior Sergio Garcia netted the first goal for the Red Devils (5-1).

Wellesley 3, Natick 1 — Senior Ryan Clare netted two goals to lift the Raiders (7-1).

Dedham 4, Millis 1 — Junior Ben Shumway (3 goals, 1 assist) led the Marauders (2-5).

Silver Lake 227, North Quincy 280 — Dillon Brown was the medalist, shooting an even-par 34 to pace the Lakers (5-2) at Presidents Golf Course.

Sandwich 249, Dennis-Yarmouth 270 — Junior Alec Abramson shot even par to lift the host Blue Knights (7-2).

Reading 45, Lexington 27 — Junior Jimmy Murphy shot an even-par 36 for the Rockets (8-1) at Meadow Brook GC.

Braintree 89, Needham 83 — Sophomore Frank Mahoney shot even-par 36 for the Wamps (5-2-1) at Needham Country Club.

Westwood 245, Bellingham 281 — Senior Dan Frodigh carded a 1-over-37 at New England Country Club for the undefeated Wolverines (9-0).

Dover-Sherborn 255, Millis 297 — Nishan Avedikian shot a 3-over-par 39 for the Raiders.

St. John’s Prep 230, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 241 — Senior Trent Han and Cole English paced the Eagles, both shooting 3-over 38 at Kernwood Country Club. Dan O'Brien also shot a 38 for the visiting Pioneers (6-5).

North Reading 2, Hamilton-Wenham 1 — Juliette Nadeau had a goal and an assist for the Hornets (5-3-1).

Greater Lowell 4, Lawrence 3 — Elizabeth Ashton (1 goal, 2 assists) broke the tie and then put the Gryphons ahead with two minutes remaining.

Foxborough 2, Canton 1 — Senior Shaina Abbott and freshman Katelyn Mollica scored goals for the Warriors (4-3-0).

Lynnfield 3, Georgetown 0 — Senior captain Liz Schaevitz led the Pioneers (5-2) with two goals.

King Philip 2, Mansfield 1 — Sophomores Chloe Layne and Avery Snead each netted a goal as the Warriors (9-1) dealt the Hornets (6-1) their first loss of the season.

Bishop Feehan 7, Martha’s Vineyard 0 — Sophomore Hailey Goodman tallied two goals and two assists to lead the No. 20 Shamrocks (6-1-1).

Brookline 3, Framingham 0 — Junior Thea Feldgoise, senior Esther Gilbert, and sophomore Bailey Cohen all scored for the Warriors.

Newton South 3, Weston 0 — Junior Audrey Lavey scored two goals and senior Maddy Yorke chipped in with a goal and an assist to lift the No. 15 Lions (8-1).

Walpole 5, Norwood 1 — Senior captain Brynne Bergen scored a goal and had two assists for the Rebels (4-5-1).

Field hockey

Dartmouth 5, New Bedford 0 — Freshman Laura Mendell netted two goals and Hailey Camire, Sophia Sousa and Ashley White added tallies to pace the Indians (5-2-2).

Hanover 5, Silver Lake 1 — The forward duo of Abby Hammett and Abby Stone led the Indians (4-3-1) with two goals each over the Lakers. Junior goalie Maegan Amsler had seven saves in the win.

Monomoy 5, Nantucket 0 — Senior captain Emma Mawn produced two goals and two assists for the visiting Sharks (3-3-1).

Fairhaven 2, Wareham 0 — Lexi Labonte and Sam Costa scored goals for the Blue Devils (1-4-1).

Needham 3, Newton North 1 — Junior Gracie Bruno had two assists for the 16th-ranked Rockets (7-1).
