WILL a wind farm for Jersey cause decarbonisation? I don’t think so. OK, so the sun is free and the wind is free, but green energy is not free, and not so green either. Just like carbon credits and bio fuels do not stop deforestation, so don’t kid yourself.

From the time you make a windmill to the time you establish your wind farm you use fossil fuel, releasing greenhouse gases. Then, of course, you release more greenhouse gases building the infrastructure and destroying your landscape. But it doesn’t stop there. You have to maintain the wind farm, and repair and replace. You can’t burn the blades, so they have to go into landfill. Thousands in eastern Texas waiting to go into landfill. The same problem in Scotland, where the blades are lying in fields, also waiting to go into landfill.

But they are not the only culprits waiting to go into landfill, because there are thousands of solar panels too that cannot be recycled. That can’t be good for the environment.

But it gets worse, because of the minerals needed to produce windmills, solar panels and batteries. Mines that cause deforestation, and destruction of habitats, fauna and flora permanently as they pollute the surrounding environment.

Ah, but there is more, because when the minerals dry up on land they will turn to mining the oceans, and destroy the sea beds, which will cause irreversible biodiversity damage. All because of our appetite for green energy.

Instead of thinking “zero carbon” we should be thinking about a balanced approach and be realistic, because there will be a shortage of minerals if we carry on with this “global warming hysteria”.
