1Mark Cuban and Alex Oshmyansky — Re: “Cuban lends his name to generic drug firm — Startup pledges to provide low-cost versions of high-cost medications,” Jan. 20 Metro & Business story.

Good for you for launching Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, which will produce low-cost versions of high-cost generic drugs. Anyone who has dealt with chronic or catastrophic health issues knows the burden of prescription drugs. You both have taken a major step in helping the most vulnerable among us while demonstrating the power of American ingenuity. Thank you.

2What They Said feature — Each week, I look forward to the Opinion section of your Sunday edition. I always read What They Said first because it encapsulates the week’s major events. I must say that you outdid yourself with this past Sunday’s column. Beginning it with a picture of Amanda Gorman, who so dazzled us at the Inauguration, and ending it with the Inauguration picture of Bernie Sanders that has taken the internet by storm, was a stroke of genius.

Seeing a picture of Dr. Anthony Fauci in the middle was icing on the cake. The words and deeds of all three in the last week have given many of us hope that better days are not only ahead, they are here. Thanks.

3Those fighting COVID-19 — Over the course of the past year, we have learned that our world is intertwined in complex ways that we often struggle to understand. Politically, economically, socially, medically, we all face similar challenges. As a global society, we have done our best to overcome 2020’s challenges in hopes of beginning the decade in global harmony. We have learned that anything affecting populations in one part of the world can have dramatic effects on many others.

This past year may not have been the most wonderful, but it has brought many together to develop a global mindset and help with global health. Thank you to our global scientists, health care workers, policymakers and to everyone fighting the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world. Together, we will do better. Together we hope to eradicate this virus. Together, as we bid farewell to 2020, we welcome 2021 with open arms.
