Alabama coach Nick Saban didn’t pull any punches on Wednesday night, taking aim at Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher during a speaking engagement with Birmingham business leaders.

At the event, Saban said that the Aggies “bought every player on their team” during the last recruiting cycle, and that his Crimson Tide “didn’t buy one player.” The comment came in response to a question about the changes that Name, Image and Likeness legislation has brought to college sports, most notably in college football recruiting.

Texas A&M had the top-ranked recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Alabama’s class was ranked No. 2.

During Saban’s response on NIL matters, which last more than six minutes, the Crimson Tide head coach also took a shot at Jackson State and head coach Deion Sanders.

“Jackson State paid a guy a million dollars last year that was a really good Division I player to come to school,” he said. “It was in the paper! They bragged about it! Nobody did anything about it.”

When it comes to basketball, Saban said, “These guys from Miami that are going to play basketball there for $400,000. That’s in the newspaper. The guy tells you how he’s doing it. But the NCAA can’t enforce their rules because it’s not against the law, and that’s an issue, that’s a problem.”

Fisher has been outspoken about the accusations that A&M’s recruiting class was “purchased.” A&M’s 2022 class, which is the all-time top class in terms of 247Sports Composite rankings, included eight five-star prospect all in the top 25 overall nationally.
