MODERN COLOR Painter Tom Maholchic of Milton exhibits his colorful and modern work in the Wotiz Gallery of Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Ave., through the month of August.

STICKY WICKETS The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society hosts a croquet tournament on the lawn of the King Caesar House. Spectators are invited to enjoy cocktails and food by the Catered Affair & the 1803 Winsor House Inn, sample oysters at a raw bar, watch a spirited competition, join in a shootout competition, and enjoy the view of Duxbury Bay. The event benefits the preservation and educational activities of the town’s historical society.

SILENT ART The North River Arts Society’s “Outside the Box’’ show offers more than 200 unsigned and unlabeled pieces of small artwork at the society’s headquarters for a silent auction with starting bids of $25. The show gives local artists, both well known and emerging, an opportunity to experiment outside their traditional medium. Festivities culminate with a party on Sept. 2, 7-10 p.m., with an announcement of auction winners.

LOCAL FERMENTATIONS The South Shore Locavores will visit Independent Fermentations in Plymouth to taste four locally brewed beers. Be prepared with an ID. Cost for tasting is $7 for a Taster Flight of four beers and $2 for 4-ounce samples.

SUMMER FESTIVAL Homemade strawberry shortcake and succulent lobster rolls highlight the Lobster and Strawberry Festival and Craft Fair at Christ Church in Plymouth. Also on the festival menu will be clam chowder, hot dogs, a baked-goods and fresh-produce table, and a raffle with an assortment of prizes. The craft fair will be held outside the church.

RUN TIME The Run for Faith, a 4.58-mile rural course, has raised more than $100,000 for local and regional causes, including two annual scholarships for graduating Plymouth high school seniors, an annual donation to the Dana Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care, and contributions to causes dear to Faith Romboldi, who died from cancer in 2010.

Boston Marathon legend Bill Rodgers will fire the starter’s pistol as the event’s grand marshal.
