MAKING A STAND
By Ann Trieger Kurland
Globe Correspondent

Like a good pair of platform shoes, a footed platter lends style. But cake stands are bulky, and storing one or two takes up valuable space. Add a lift to your own plates and bowls with ServeItUp from Fusionbrands, a white porcelain pedestal topped with a suction cup to securely hold the dinnerware, and a tab to release it when you’re done. The suction works only on shiny, flat, smooth, nonporous or glass plates or bowls. The large stand ($20) holds plates from 10 to 12 inches; the small one ($15) holds 6- to 8-inch plates. Stack two for a multitiered look and the food will appear even more delicious.
