Massachusetts still likes Governor Charlie Baker, according to a new WBUR poll.

President Trump? Not so much, according to the poll.

WBUR surveyed 504 registered voters in the state from Jan. 5 to Jan. 7.

Of those surveyed, 66 percent had a favorable view of Baker. Only 17 percent had an unfavorable view of the Republican governor. Seventy-four percent approved of the job he’s doing in the Corner Office.

Trump was another story.

According to the poll, the results of which were released Wednesday morning, only 28 percent of those surveyed viewed the president favorably, versus 64 percent who viewed him unfavorably. A third of those polled thought Trump was fit to be president, whereas 62 percent did not think he was fit to serve in his current position.

And his tweets didn’t go over well, either.

Only 13 percent of those surveyed thought his use of Twitter was appropriate. Eighty percent thought the commander-in-chief’s use of the social media platform was inappropriate.

State residents also had thoughts on whether former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney should run for the US Senate in Utah. The former Republican presidential nominee is said to be considering such a campaign, given that longtime GOP stalwart Orrin Hatch has announced he would not seek re-election. The majority were in favor; 54 percent of those polled thought a Utah run for Romney was a good idea. Twenty nine percent said it was a bad idea.

Fifty-four percent of those polled had a favorable view of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren; 38 percent had an unfavorable view of the Democrat.

In the poll, 40 percent had a favorable view of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, whereas 17 percent had an unfavorable view of her, and 17 percent had heard of her but were undecided.

Baker has enjoyed high approval ratings during his gubernatorial tenure. For more than two years of Baker’s governorship, about 70 percent of voters have approved of his job performance. In October, a WBUR poll found 67 percent of those polled viewed him favorably.

Trump may fare worse in Massachusetts as time goes on. According to the poll, 59 percent of respondents thought Trump serving as president was bad for the country. That figure, according to WBUR, is up from 49 percent in January 2017, the month he was inaugurated.

According a Gallup poll released in July, Trump’s approval rating in Massachusetts was 29 percent, the second lowest in the United States behind only Vermont. In WBUR’s new poll, his approval rating mirrored the Gallup poll from the summer at 29 percent.
