One of the abortion opponents quoted in the article “Abortion opponents newly energized by Trump’s signals’’ (Metro, Jan. 27) said she can’t wait till it is illegal and there will finally be no more abortions. But there will always be abortions. When it is illegal, they will be illegal, and there will be back-alley and self-induced abortions, just as there were before Roe v. Wade. And women will die.

Before Roe v. Wade, women were ashamed, and there was no social media. If abortion is outlawed, deaths from illegal abortions will be all over social media, as will stories of women indicted and jailed for abortions. Are we ready?
