It’s an unpardonable offense for Trump to even consider pardoning himself
I can’t believe we are all calmly discussing whether the president has the legal right to pardon himself (“Trump’s power to pardon himself is questionable,’’ Page A1, July 22). The very concept that he would even consider such a thing makes him unqualified to lead a democracy. This is the behavior of a banana republic dictator. It doesn’t matter whether it is technically legal; it’s morally and ethically wrong. And a country with a president who has indicated that he may do so can no longer claim to be a beacon of freedom to the world.
