Think of: Composer Jason Robert Brown or a male version of Jeanine Tesori: smart, humble, creative, and eager to collaborate. Davy graduated from the Hartt School’s conservatory of music last May but is already making a mark in Boston’s musical theater scene. After composing music for Boston Children’s Theatre’s “Calvin’s Monster’’ while still in school, he’s been named resident music director for the company and has written orchestrations for its new musical “Caps for Sale.’’

What caught our eye: At a recent rehearsal of “Caps for Sale,’’ Davy reviewed sections of music with the cast and made corrections while always encouraging the young singers. Both composer Paul Lewis and director Burgess Clark say his musical suggestions and ideas were critically important to the development of the score.

Light bulb moment: In high school, Davy performed as a teen caroler in the North Shore Music Theatre’s production of “A Christmas Carol.’’ While working with the show choir, he wrote an a cappella song. “When I taught the song to the group, and then conducted them, I never felt so alive, so present in the performance.’’

Biggest thrill: “This past summer, I got to sit down at the keyboard and play the last six or eight minutes of the music for ‘Pippin’ on Broadway. That was amazing.’’

Biggest surprise: “It wasn’t until high school that I began to think of music as a career. When I got serious, I was surprised to learn that talent is only one part of the equation: working hard, being motivated, and being open and easy to work with are equally important to survive in professional theater.’’

Inspired by: Vocal teacher Daniel Blake.

Aspires to: Conduct on Broadway.

For good luck: “I always remind myself that the [word] we’re working with is ‘play.’ I’m trying to express music, tell stories, make change, but always in the spirit of play.’’

What people should know: Davy volunteers for ASAPROSAR, a Salvadoran association for rural health.

Coming soon: Davy will be the assistant conductor for “Funny Girl’’ at the North Shore Music Theatre June 7-19, and he will be the musical conductor for Boston Children’s Theatre’s summer programs, including “The Drowsy Chaperone.’’
