TAOISEACH
david l. ryan/globe staff

Pronounced TEE-shock, it is the title of the head of government, or prime minister, of the Republic of Ireland. In Irish, it translates roughly to chief. The current taoiseach, Enda Kenny, stopped in Boston on Monday en route to Washington for the customary St. Patrick’s Day visit to the White House. Kenny and the Irish ambassador to the United States, Anne Anderson, met with Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karen Polito (left) at the State House. Kenny also met with Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and said in a tweet that they discussed business and immigration.
