HONORING A FALLEN OFFICER

A wreath-laying ceremony was held Monday at Day Boulevard and Shore Road in South Boston to honor Boston police Officer Patrick J. Carr, who was killed in the line of duty on Aug. 1, 1916, while responding to a call for an injured 6-year-old boy on Castle Island. Patrolman Christopher Carr, Carr’s great-grandson, and his sons Mason (left), 5, and Nathan, 3, milled around after the ceremony. At far left is granddaughter Maureen Carr Taylor.
