The 15th annual International Race for Research, a 5K road race and 2-mile walk, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Leather City Commons in Peabody. The event is sponsored by The Progeria Research Foundation and its partner, North Shore Bank. There will be a post-race party with free refreshments. PRF’s youth ambassador, Meghan Waldron, who has progeria and is on the Frontier Regional School track team in Deerfield. Runners and walkers can join her team by pledging to raise $250 for PRF. On Sunday, Sept. 11, the second annual Trouble The Dog Toy Ride will take place in Wilmington. The motorcycle ride, escorted by the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and sponsored by Marblehead Opticians, will start and end at Shriners Auditorium. Proceeds will help place Trouble the Dog plush toys in firetrucks, ambulances, and police vehicles for first responders to provide to children in the event of an emergency. A relocation ceremony for Newburyport’s Fisherman’s Memorial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5. The ceremony will be held at the memorial’s new location, adjacent to the Newburyport Commercial Fish Pier at the eastern end of the boardwalk on the city’s central waterfront. The ceremony will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the loss of the fishing vessel Heather Lynne II and the three fishermen aboard, Captain Jeffrey Hutchins of Byfield, Kevin Foster of Rye, N.H., and John Michael Lowther of Newburyport; the loss of the Newburyport fishing vessel Lady Luck in 2007 and Captain Sean Cone of North Andover and Sean Miller of North Hampton, N.H.; and all other Newburyport mariners lost at sea.
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and Mass. Firefighting Academy deputy director Joseph Klucznik announced the graduation of the 247th class of the Mass. Firefighting Academy’s 50-day Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program. Graduates include Steven R. Castryck of the Amesbury Fire Department; David W. Barrett of the Gloucester Fire Department; Matthew J. Doucet and Andre Martinez of the Haverhill Fire Department; and Daniel N. Veinot of the Lynnfield Fire Department.
