Marco Estrada pitched eight scoreless innings and Ryan Goins homered to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-2 win over the visiting New York Yankees on Monday night.
Estrada (3-2) allowed three hits and beat the Yankees for the second time in a week.
His quality start came at a perfect time for the Blue Jays’ bullpen, which was worn down after Sunday’s 11-inning loss to the Red Sox.
Four Blue Jay relievers, including closer Roberto Osuna, were unavailable against the Yankees.
Mets 1, White Sox 0— Matt Harvey rediscovered his form with seven dominant innings of two-hit ball, and Neil Walker homered off Jose Quintana, lifting New York over visiting Chicago.
Harvey, who was booed at Citi Field when he lasted just 2? innings against the Nationals just two weeks ago, retired the first 13 batters he faced, kept his velocity high, and threw 61 of his 87 pitches for strikes
Jed Lowrie added two hits and scored the game-winning run for Oakland while first baseman Yonder Alonso singled, scored, and made a diving catch to strand the potential tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the seventh.
Cubs 2, Dodgers 0 — Travis Wood and three other relievers combined for seven perfect innings after starter Jason Hammel left the game with hamstring cramps, leading Chicago to a shutout win at Wrigley Field.
Hammel exited after his right hamstring cramped while warming up before the third inning. Wood came on to pitch four perfect innings in his longest stint of the season.
Rangers 9, Indians 2 — Nomar Mazara hit a three-run homer and Ian Desmond added a two-run shot as Texas cruised in Cleveland.
Derek Holland pitched six innings and gave up one run — a solo homer by Mike Napoli — to get his first win since April 30.
Royals 6, Rays 2 — Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer after Lorenzo Cain drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run eighth inning as host Kansas City beat Tampa Bay.
Athletics 3, Twins 2 — Coco Crisp homered to lead off the game, Khris Davis hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, and Oakland hung on for a home win over Minnesota.
Braves 5, Giants 3 — Mallex Smith hit a three-run triple in the second inning and Mike Foltynewicz allowed three hits and one run in six-plus innings for host Atlanta.
The Braves survived San Francisco’s two-run, ninth-inning rally, hanging on for their third win in four games. They are now 5-21 at home, still the worst in the majors.
Cardinals 6, Brewers 0 — Matt Carpenter had four hits and scored three times and Carlos Martinez pitched eight scoreless innings to lead St. Louis to a road win in Milwaukee.
Martinez (5-5) allowed five singles, walked one, and struck out eight, rebounding nicely after having allowed at least four runs in each of his three previous starts.
Reds 11, Rockies 8 — Adam Duvall had his first two-homer game, Joey Votto added his 200th career homer, and Eugenio Suarez also went deep as Cincinnati won in Denver.
Zack Cozart also homered for the light-hitting Reds, who collected a season-best 17 hits.
Pirates 10, Marlins 0 — Jeff Locke tossed a three-hitter, Gregory Polanco hit a grand slam, and Sean Rodriguez added a two-run blast, leading Pittsburgh to a win in Miami.
Angels 5, Tigers 1 — Jhoulys Chacin threw a four-hitter to win a scintillating duel with Justin Verlander — they combined to retire the first 27 batters — and Cliff Pennington’s tiebreaking RBI single in the Angels’ five-run eighth inning propelled Los Angeles to victory.
The pitchers traded zeros until the Angels led off the eighth with three straight singles against Verlander, who gave up one hit in the first seven innings of Detroit’s fourth loss in five games.
Chacin threw his third career complete game in his fourth start for Los Angeles.
Nationals 4, Phillies 3 — Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer and a tiebreaking two-run single, Tanner Roark threw seven sharp innings, and Washington held on for the win in Philadelphia.
Astros 8, Diamondbacks 3 — Collin McHugh struck out eight in a complete game and Jason Castro led the offense with three RBIs, powering Houston to a road win.
The first two games of the series were originally scheduled to be played in Puerto Rico, but were moved due to concerns of the Zika virus.
The Astros jumped on Edwin Escobar (0-1) in his first big league start, scoring eight runs off the left-hander in 3 1/3 innings.
Mariners 9, Padres 3 — Kyle Seager’s two-run homer in the sixth snapped a 2-2 tie, and Dae-Ho Lee’s three-run shot capped a five-run eighth in host Seattle’s rout of San Diego.
