To the Editor:
“Some things never change.” This saying clearly defines the ongoing quality nursing and assistive care at the Wayne County Care Center – regardless of ability to pay. Government programs like Medicare and Medicaid certainly are a lifeline but there are still medical expenses that are not covered that could make the difference in quality of life. In some cases, elderly or disabled folks do not qualify for those programs and need health care. For over 162 years, the Care Center has been the safety net for those folks. The need has not changed, that is why taxpayers have supported the operational levy for the past 25 years. I encourage voters again to remember to vote yes for the renewal of the Care Center levy May 8. We must ensure that our disabled/elderly citizens have the opportunity to have a caring home and medical services they need.
