With an average temperature of 35 degrees, the meteorological winter that ended Tuesday was the fifth warmest in Boston’s history, the National Weather Service said. A meteorological winter is defined as December, January, and February. Four of the five warmest Boston winters have occurred since 2000. The warmest was of 2001-2002, with an average temperature of nearly 38 degrees.
