Russia named 68 athletes on Tuesday it wants to send to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro if its global ban from track and field is lifted. The list approved by the suspended All-Russia Athletic Federation appears to contradict an earlier promise not to send any athletes who have previously been banned for doping offenses. Former world indoor champion triple jumper Yekaterina Koneva makes the list even though she served a ban from 2007-09.
US track: Logistics problem
The leader of USA Track and Field said his visits to Brazil have made clear that ‘‘logistics will be a problem’’ for the more than 120 Americans who will compete at Olympic Stadium in Rio next month. USATF CEO Max Siegel called moving athletes across town from their living quarters and training centers to the stadium is one of the federation’s biggest concerns and something it doesn’t have full control over . . . Researchers from the National Institutes of Health announced a study on the affects of Zika to take place during the Rio Olympics. The scientists are looking for at least 1,000 athletes, coaches and staff to provide samples of bodily fluids for testing . . . In men’s basketball, Italy and Latvia advanced to the semifinals as group winners in their respective qualifying tournaments (of which there are three) . . . Carmen Small is requesting an arbitration hearing in the hopes that she will be added to the four-member US roster submitted by USA Cycling.

Royals closer Davis to DL
The Royals placed closer Wade Davis on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm. Davis had a 1.23 ERA and 19 saves in 30 games . . . Angels lefthander C.J. Wilson will have shoulder surgery to address fraying of the labrum and rotator cuff. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for next week in Los Angeles . . . The Cardinals placed slugger Brandon Moss on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle . . . The Tigers placed lefthander Daniel Norris (strained right oblique) and righthander Jordan Zimmermann (neck strain) on the 15-day DL . . . Chicago police said they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang. In a statement, police said a 23-year-old female reported being assaulted by Kang inside a hotel June 17 after the Pirates played the Cubs.

Sam Querrey, who upset No. 1 Novak Djokovic en route to making the final eight at Wimbledon, did not make the US Davis Cup team that will face Croatia in the quarterfinals this month. Ex-FIFA leader’s ban reduced
Former FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke had his ban from soccer cut from 12 to 10 years on appeal. FIFA said its ethics committee, which banned Valcke after the executive was fired over FIFA’s World Cup ticketing and broadcast rights scandal in January, was too harsh . . . Gerardo Martino resigned as Argentina’s national team coach just over a week after the team lost in the Copa America final. Martino had coached the team since 2014 . . . Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister, said he has agreed to sell AC Milan to a Chinese investment group.

Tennessee is paying $2.48 million to settle a lawsuit filed by eight unidentified women who said the school had violated Title IX regulations and created a ‘‘hostile sexual environment’’ through a policy of indifference toward assaults by athletes, lawyers for both sides announced Tuesday . . . The $75,000 Jill Jellison Memorial Stakes will highlight an 11-race card at Suffolk Downs Saturday . . .
