SOUTH REGION

2. Villanova (31-5) vs. 3. Miami (27-7) on CBS at 7:10 p.m.: Both teams have versatility on the perimeter, and it looks like a standoff. The point guard matchup between Nova’s Ryan Arcidiacono and Miami’s Angel Rodriguez should be interesting. Arcidiacono has size, Rodriguez quickness. The health of Villanova big man Daniel Ochefu is critical, too; the Wildcats need his inside game. Miami needs to pay special attention to Kris Jenkins, who has been deadly from the outside. Close call.

1. Kansas (32-4) vs. 5. Maryland (27-8) on CBS at 9:40 p.m.: The Jayhawks have been overwhelmingly good, and there’s no reason that shouldn’t continue. They have a deeper roster than Maryland. The Terps have been erratic, and that starts with point guard Melo Trimble. He needs to elevate his game, avoid mistakes, facilitate offense, and dominate Kansas defensively. Huge task for him.

WEST REGION

2. Oklahoma (27-7) vs. 3. Texas A&M (28-8) on TBS at 7:37 p.m.: Let’s face it, A&M is lucky to be here after overcoming a 12-point deficit in the final 40-some seconds against Northern Iowa. Oklahoma will not be providing any gifts. The best news for the Sooners is that Buddy Hield is playing like the best player in the country again. A&M can’t contend with Oklahoma on the perimeter. The Aggies need a huge effort from freshman center Tyler Davis because Oklahoma is vulnerable to inside play.

1. Oregon (30-6) vs. 4. Duke (25-10) on TBS at 10:07: Oregon presents matchup problems because its big players can play outside and are mobile. Defensively, the Ducks could give Duke problems because the Blue Devils are susceptible to pressure. I would expect Oregon coach Dana Altman to turn up the heat. Duke needs to avoid turnovers and attack the pressure for easy baskets.
