From film events in Boston to destination festivals, the local movie landscape offers plenty of great programming this summer. Here are just a few of the noteworthy offerings.

Coolidge Corner Theatre: “Variete’’ (1925), starring Emil Jannings and featuring live musical accompaniment by the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra, screens on May 2. Legendary actress Liv Ullmann will attend the 50th anniversary screening of Ingmar Bergman’s “Persona’’ (1966) on May 24. On Thursdays, “Rewind’’ presents throwbacks such as “The Sandlot’’ (July 21) and “Bring It On’’ (Aug. 11). For more information go to www.coolidge.org.

Brattle Theatre: Cinephiles won’t want to miss the restored 35mm print of Jean Cocteau’s “Beauty and the Beast’’ from Janus Films (June 17-20); or the new digital restoration of “Blue Velvet’’ for its 30th anniversary (July 1-7). Ciclismo Classico Bike Travel Film Festival: One day a year (June 1), the Regent Theatre in Arlington plays host to international films on bicycle travel and adventure. For more information go to www.regenttheatre.com.

Berkshire International Film Festival: Travel west for a collection of films and panel discussions (June 2-5) at the Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington and at the Beacon Cinema in Pittsfield. For more information go to www.biffma.org.

Provincetown International Film Festival: Now in its 18th year, the annual PIFF (June 15-19) hosts two-time Oscar winner Ang Lee as its Filmmaker on the Edge. Lee will join filmmaker John Waters in conversation at Town Hall on June 18. For more information go to www.ptownfilmfest.org.

Roxbury International Film Festival: Also turning 18, the RIFF (June 22-30) celebrates people of color with premieres, workshops, and panel discussions at the MFA. For more information go to www.roxburyinternationalfilmfestival.com.

Nantucket Film Festival: For its 21st year (June 22-27), the festival honors writer-director Oliver Stone with its Screenwriters Tribute Award. Other NFF programs include In Their Shoes . . . Maine International Film Festival: The 19th annual MIFF screens independent and international films at Railroad Square Cinema and the Waterville Opera House (July 8-17). For more information go to www.miff.org.

Bluestocking Film Series: In Portland, Maine, this series (July 14-16) presents female-driven short films with guest filmmakers. For more information go to www.bluestocking ­­films.com.

Woods Hole Film Festival: The oldest film festival on Cape Cod and the Islands celebrates its 25th season (July 30-Aug. 6) with dozens of international films and visiting filmmakers. For more information go to www.woodsholefilm festival.org.

FLICKERS: Rhode Island International Film Festival: This event has become a leading juried competition showcase for international independent filmmakers (Aug. 9-14). For more information go to www.rifilmfest.org.

Massachusetts Independent Film Festival: Split between the Brattle and Somerville theaters, the festival (Aug. 24-27) offers dozens of films and is dedicated to promoting and assisting emerging indie filmmakers. For more information go to www.massiff.org.
