
Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is holding out for new contract and did not report to training camp Saturday. Hopkins is scheduled to make $1 million in salary in the final season of his rookie contract, though the Texans have picked up his fifth-year option. He can be fined up to $40,000 for every day he misses camp. He is coming off a huge season with 111 receptions, 1,521 yards receiving, and 11 touchdowns despite inconsistency at quarterback and few other receiving options on the Texans. Houston general manager Rick Smith said in a statement: ‘‘We are disappointed DeAndre has elected not to report to training camp with the rest of his teammates. He has expressed his position regarding his contract status, and we have been clear with both he and his representatives of ours. Our focus is on the 2016 season and all of our collective efforts and attention will be centered on that endeavor.’’
Chiefs extend tackle Fisher
The Kansas City Chiefs signed left tackle Eric Fisher to a contract extension. The Chiefs did not announce terms, but a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press it was a four-year, $48 million deal that includes $40 million guaranteed . . . San Francisco 49ers right tackle Anthony Davis was reinstated after an 11-month retirement that he planned to come back from all along. Davis was affected by a concussion late in the 2014 season . . . The Minnesota Vikings are keeping kickoff returner/wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson out of practice, following an injury around his left shoulder. The Vikings have also held running back Adrian Peterson out of full-team drills because of a minor offseason training injury. Offensive lineman Mike Harris is dealing with an undisclosed illness that’s keeping him out of practice . . . Robert Nkemdeche, the Arizona Cardinals’ first-round pick, will be sidelined two weeks with a high ankle sprain, said coach Bruce Arians.

Ariya Jutanugarn shot a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 to pull two strokes ahead of Mirim Lee at the Women’s British Open in Woburn, England. Jutanugarn birdied six of the first 14 holes in the third round and finished at 16-under 200 to set the tournament 54-hole scoring record . . . Stephan Jaeger set another Web.com record in the Ellie Mae Classic in Hayward, Calif., shooting a 6-under 64 to increase his lead to seven strokes. Jaeger reached 23-under 187 to break the tour's 54-hole record for strokes and fall one short of the mark for relation to par.

Boat ramp fails in Rio
The main ramp of Marina da Gloria, the sailing venue of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, partially collapsed. No one was injured, organizers said, in the incident that raises more questions about the quality of construction in the Olympic host city. Philip Wilkinson, a spokesman for the Rio 2016 organizing committee, placed the blame on high tides and a stormy sea. The collapsed structure, which is temporary, is the main access point for boats to reach the water . . . The International Olympic Committee set up a special three-person panel to make a final ruling on which individual Russian athletes will be allowed to compete. The panel will decide on the entry of Russian athletes whose names have been forwarded by their international sports federations and approved by an independent arbitrator . . . Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, the most decorated men’s doubles pair of all time, pulled out of the Olympics, citing health concerns that have also prompted other athletes to skip Rio.

Judge rules against Rose
A federal judge in Los Angeles refused to dismiss a $21.5 million lawsuit alleging New York Knicks player Derrick Rose and two friends drugged and gang-raped a woman. On Wednesday, federal Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald said a jury must decide whether to believe Rose’s contention that the woman, a former lover, consented to group sex at her home in 2013. The case could go to trial in October, when Knicks training camp gets underway. Messages left for Rose’s agent, B.J. Armstrong, were not immediately returned Saturday. Rose has denied the allegations, and his lawyer has labeled the lawsuit an extortion attempt . . . The Cleveland Cavaliers waived veteran swingman Dahntay Jones, who provided a spark during the team's title run. Jones, who was signed on the final day of the regular season, came off the bench in Game 6 of the NBA Finals and scored 5 straight points to slow a Golden State Warriors rally . . . Australian star Penny Taylor, 35, said she will retire at the end of the WNBA season. She helped lead the Phoenix Mercury to three WNBA titles and guided Australia to the 2006 world championship.

Djokovic advances to final
Novak Djokovic beat Gael Monfils, 6-3, 6-2, to reach the Rogers Cup final in Toronto. In Sunday’s final, Djokovic will play Kei Nishikori, who beat Stan Wawrinka, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 . . . Simona Halep beat Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, to advance to the Rogers Cup final in Montreal for the second straight year. Halep will face Madison Keys, who beat Kristina Kucova, 6-2, 6-1, for the championship.
