Openings: The Blossom Bar at Brookline Village’s Sichuan Garden (295 Washington St. at Holden Street) has opened, says Ran Duan, also the potent force behind Sichuan Garden’s Baldwin Bar and Baldwin & Sons Trading Co. in Woburn. Fight off the chill with tropical drinks like the Bocadillo Sour, made with Bacardi Carta Blanca, guava paste, lime, and mint.
If beer is more your speed, head to Hopsters, which has opened location number two in the Seaport (15 Sleeper St. at Congress Street). Guests at the brew-your-own beer hall and restaurant can learn how to create their own libations with the help of on-site beer masters, all while snacking on suds-friendly food: wings, nachos, fried pickles, flatbread pizza, and burgers.
Olivia’s Bistro has opened in Newton (136 Adams St. at Watertown Street). Enjoy pasta and wood-fired pizza in the old Ginger Root space.
Farther north, Trina’s Starlite Lounge opens an outpost in Amesbury (37 Main St. at Friend Street). Beau Sturm, Josh Childs, and Suzi Maitland also run the Paddle Inn, Parlor Sports, and Audubon. Trina’s, which started in Inman Square, is known for coronary-quaking dishes: lavishly topped hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, chili.
Closings: Lunch downtown just got a bit less delicious: Sultan’s Kitchen, at 116 State St., has closed its doors after 36 years in business, according to an e-mail from owner Ozcan Ozan.
The restaurant — hailed by former Globe food editor Sheryl Julian for its “wonderful’’ food — was known for fresh vegetables, stuffed grape leaves, and sandwiches like pita stuffed with baba ghanouj.
Ozan was a chef in Europe before coming to the United States. In Boston, he cooked at Ferdinand’s, the French restaurant in Cambridge, before opening his downtown storefront. He also wrote a 1998 cookbook, “Sultan’s Kitchen: A Turkish Cookbook.’’ In the e-mail, Ozan said he had lost the lease for the State Street building and will miss his loyal customers.
