In architecture, it was a road less traveled — a freestanding condo.
The first step inside this 10-year-old home leads to an unexpectedly airy expanse: an open floor plan with 15-foot-high ceilings that flare toward the front of the room, where a small dormer provides light through three small square windows. The living room takes up the first half of the space and includes a corner gas fireplace angled to push heat to the entire area. The dining area is positioned next to a windowed bumpout.
The kitchen is a sweet balance of cherry soft-close cabinets (some with glass fronts), a dark granite counter, and stainless-steel appliances, including a five-burner gas stove. A breakfast bar with a wine rack on the end separates the kitchen from the dining area. The kitchen is set on a tile floor, but the living and dining areas have hardwood.
At the back of the kitchen, a pair of French doors connects to the screened-in porch, a square that juts out into the backyard.
A door in the living room opens to a short hallway that leads to a half bath and the master suite. The bedroom has a tray ceiling and transom windows positioned above the bed, offering light and fresh air. Another set of windows looks out to the yard. The suite offers a deep walk-in closet with custom cabinetry and a bath with a shower large enough for two and a single vanity with a makeup table topped with granite.
Back in the living room, oak stairs lead to a loft spacious enough to serve as a family room. This space features a pair of windows and recessed lights.
The second bedroom is only slightly smaller than its counterpart below. It’s a bright space, compliments of a bank of windows positioned to give nice views of the backyard. There is an en-suite full bath with ceramic-tile walls and floors, a jetted tub, and a walk-in closet.
The full-sized walkout basement is unfinished but above grade thanks to the home’s position on an embankment. The basement offers a work area, a slider to the backyard, and a poured-concrete floor and foundation. The home, which has an attached one-car garage and its own driveway, is part of the Beechwood Village development, a 55-plus condo community with 54 units on 35-plus acres. Condo rules require that at least one resident be 55 years old or older. Regulations allow a single pet of no more than 30 pounds. Children under 18 are limited to extended visits; they cannot live there permanently.
The development offers a clubhouse (available for residents to rent for a nominal fee) with a kitchen, a grill, a patio, a water feature, and a bocce court.
The association fees cover snow removal — they plow your driveway and shovel the walkways and your farmer’s porch — among other things.
The listing agent, Gary Lawrence of Century 21 Tullish & Clancy in Weymouth, will hold an open house from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11.
