The family of a 55-year-old man fatally shot inside a Mattapan home Saturday night said the death was a result of a break-in.
Police were called to the home at 201 Manchester St. at 11:15 p.m. When officers arrived, they found an “indoor crime scene,’’ according to the Boston Police Department website. The man had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Boston police on Sunday did not give any information about the circumstances surrounding the killing and did not confirm whether it involved a break-in, but department spokeswoman Officer Kim Tavares said no arrests have been made and investigators are looking for suspects.
The death marked the city’s 33rd homicide of the year. At this point in 2017, Boston had 32 homicides.
A woman who gave only her first name, Betty, answered the door at the home Sunday morning and said the man had just celebrated his 55th birthday. Speaking on behalf of the family, she said they are still grieving and do not know who killed the man, who she declined to identify. She said he was killed after someone broke into the house.
Outside the two-story yellow-and-tan home Sunday morning, a single police car was parked on the quiet street.
