A 23-year-old Wrentham man pleaded guilty Friday to charges that he sexually assaulted children while working at a Bridgewater State University day care, according to the Plymouth County district attorney.

Kyle P. Loughlin, 23, was sentenced by a Brockton Superior Court judge to 7½ years behind bars, followed by 10 years of probation, said Beth Stone, spokeswoman for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, in a statement.

Loughlin pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and abuse of a child, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and one count of larceny from a building, she said.

He was accused of inappropriately touching three preschool-aged children between January and March of 2015 while working as an attendant at the Bridgewater State University’s Children’s Center, a state-licensed day care center located on the campus, according to the statement.

The guilty plea “prevents these child victims from being called as witnesses in court to testify to the traumatic events of 2015,’’ said Stone in the statement.

“Today’s resolution is in the best interest of these children and their families and prevents these youngsters from being further victimized at trial,’’ said Cruz in the statement.

After he serves his sentence, Loughlin’s probation requirements will include that he register as a sex offender, complete necessary treatment, wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, have no contact with any of the victims, and have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, according to the statement.

The day care’s director, 55-year-old Judith Ritacco of Boylston, is scheduled to stand trial on April 18 for recklessly endangering children by allegedly failing to report the abuse. She is also being charged with intimidation of a witness/interference with an investigation, according to the statement.
