Oh yes, Donald Trump may well have his party (“A Trump boom for the economy?’’ by Kenneth Rogoff, Opinion, Dec. 13), but most of us won’t be invited. Republican policies since Ronald Reagan have steadily undermined the middle class, suppressing the protections of organized labor, railing against the so-called welfare state and Social Security, driving down wages, diluting education through testing, and ignoring the steady degradation of the environment.
Trump is poised toward another round of tax cuts for the rich and the hollowing out of democratic government, except, of course, for the military. For some reason, Republicans can’t seem to grasp that a strong middle class means the chance for a good life for everyone.
Who’s going to have the money to buy the goods of Trump’s America? Russia?
