There must be less harmful way to generate revenue
Re “Treasurer seeks online lottery games’’ (Page A1, July 12): Instead of striving to “reach the younger market . . . via online lottery games,’’ state Treasurer Deb Goldberg should put her creative energy into finding revenue that isn’t harmful to individuals and society.
Using technology to chase new lottery revenue is like developing more addictive strains of tobacco rather than helping farmers learn to grow different crops.
The next cool app would be something that improves the lives of ordinary people without allowances for regressive taxation or compulsive gambling.
The lottery is not the next cool app.
