Recent bird sightings on Cape Cod (as of June 21) as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
The diversity of terns continues to be off the charts for this time of year. Sightings included single Sandwich, royal, and Arctic terns in Provincetown, a Caspian tern at Head of the Meadow in Truro, and 2 gull-billed terns over Wellfleet Bay sanctuary’s Lieutenant Island property in Wellfleet.
Other sightings in Provincetown included 2 ocean-going blue-winged teal, 4 species of shearwater, a black guillemot, a pomarine jaeger, and 2 little gulls.
A black vulture was seen at Mass Audubon’s Pilgrim Heights hawk watch in North Truro and again in Provincetown.
Other sightings around the Cape included the continuing chuck-will’s-widow at Elain Avenue in Falmouth, a least bittern continuing at Bell’s Neck, 4 cliff swallows at Morris Island in Chatham, an Acadian flycatcher and 3?Northern bobwhites reported at Fort Hill in Eastham, and a late black-throated green warbler in Provincetown.
