Local television stars shine at Clapper Awards

WADSWORTH – Class, style and beauty inside and out are some of the words Tish Niedzwiecki used to describe this year’s “Host with the Most” at the WCTV Clapper Awards.
The 29th annual Clapper Awards brought the best and brightest from WCTV programming to Grace Lutheran Church Nov. 21 as producers, directors and hosts were honored for their accomplishments during the past year.
The most coveted award of the night is Host with the Most which went to Katherine Miracle.
“I’m so surprised,” Miracle said as she accepted the award. “My husband kept a big secret from me.”
Miracle thanked the staff at WCTV and said she was blessed to live in a town like Wadsworth.
“My clients are from all over the country and they will say ‘I saw your show. How much do you pay to produce it?’” she said. “I tell them I don’t pay anything and that they have to come to this town. I feel so blessed to be here.”
A number of producers were honored that night.
Gene Kovack and the late Joe Gabrosek, of “Polka Time Again,” received the Diamond Disc Award for the series with the most hits on WatchWCTV.com.
Stephen McIlvaine won the Diamond Disc Award for a single show with “Legal Briefs.”
The Platinum Disc Awards went to “It’s a Great Day in Wadsworth” by the Wadsworth Area Chamber of Commerce for second most hits for a series and to John Gramuglia for “Grizzly Grapplin’” for second most hits for a single show.
Peggy Pogan received the Golden Disc Award for third most hits in a series for “Believing in the Beyond” and Bruce Wells received the Golden Disc for third most hits on a single program for “Community Impact.”
Several producers received milestone awards including Irma Baker, Phil and Natalie Doell and Sharon and David Moritz for their 100th program. Gregg Townsend was also recognized for his 100th program.
Celebrating the milestones of their 200th programs were Joe Jarrell and Peggy Pogan and Jarrell also received recognition for his 300th program.
Roger Havens was recognized for his 800th program and David Kenney for his 900th program.
Kenny was also recognized for his 1000th show as was Joe Gains.
Roger Polk received recognition for his 1,200th program and Gene Kovack and Joe Gabrosek for their 1,300th program.
In the category of Best School Event, the Clapper went to Roger Wright and Michele Evans for “Invention Convention.” Franklin School was runner up with Potato Decorating Contest and Sacred Heart received an honorable mention for “Veterans Day.”
For the Best Look into Our Schools category, the Clapper went to “The Living Nativity” by Sacred Heart School. The runner up to Roger Havens for “Franklin School’s Christmas” and the honorable mention to Roger Wright and Michele Evans for “Secondary Maker Spaces.”
In the category of Best School Performance, the Clapper went to Andrea Atzinger for “WMS Choir Concert.” Runner-up was Nicole Schroeder for “Overlook Variety Show” and the honorable mention went to the “Lincoln Talent Show.”
The Clapper for Best Youth Production went to Ella Bard, Cecelia Craig, Athena Craig and Amelia Bard for “Yogataters.” Runner-up was “Summer Reading Challenge” by Wadsworth Public Library and the honorable mention went to Sacred Heart School for “Haphazardly Ever After.”
The Clapper for Best Documentary went to Jenny Young for “Meet Santa Claus at Wadsworth Airport.” Runner-up went to Bob Parmelee for “Balloons Over Wadsworth” and the honorable mention went to Wanda and Sterling Haynes for “Wine with Wanda.”
The Clapper for Best Religious Message went to David R. Kenney for “Light From Above.” “Living Stations of the Cross” by Sacred Heart School was runner-up and Larry States and Adam Barton received an honorable mention for “Mosaic Church.”
For Best Worship Service, Mosaic Church received the Clapper. Runner-up was Sacred Heart Church and honorable mention was First Christian Church.
Tom Stugmyer received the Clapper in the category of Best Performing Arts for “Scare on the Square.” Gary Neffenger was runner-up with “High Arts Festival Crosswinds” and Reimer Road Baptist Church received an honorable mention for “Shepherds and Kings.”
Roger Wright received the Clapper for Best Public Awareness for “Wounded Warrior Project.” Jenny Young was runner-up with “Spring has Sprung – The Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation” and Roger Polk received an honorable mention for “Ticket Trivia – The Conrads.”
In the category of Best Promotional, Jenny Young won the Clapper for “Farmers Market – The Village of St. Edward.” Wanda and Sterling Haynes were runners-up for “Wine with Wanda” and Tom Stugmyer and Stephanie Mueller received an honorable mention for “Walk to End Alzheimer’s.”
Wanda and Sterling Haynes received the Clapper for “Wine with Wanda” in the category of Best Special Event. Jenny Young was runner-up with Village of St. Edward Wadsworth Ribbon Cutting and Chris and Larkin Tackett received an honorable mention for Main Street Wadsworth First Friday Sweets Stroll.
Tommy Maroon received the Clapper in the category of Best Sports and Recreation for “The Tommy Maroon Sports Show.” Gregg Townsend received runner-up for WHS Girls Lacrosse and Roger Polk received an honorable mention for “The Ultimate Game Paintball.”
In the category of Best Instructional, Cheri Smith won the Clapper for “Brush Tips with Cheri.” Irma Baker, Phil and Natalie Doell and Sharon and David Moritz received runner-up for “RSVP Winter Bird Feeding” and Janet Hawkins received an honorable mention for the “Health and Happiness Show.”
In the category of Best Informational, the Clapper went to All Creatures Veterinary Clinic for “Animal Crackers.” Janet Hawkins received runner-up for “The Health and Happiness Show” and Peggy Pogan received an honorable mention for “Believing in the Beyond.”
John Grom won the Clapper for Right and Left in the category of “Best Talk Show.” Roger Polk was runner-up with Ticket Trivia and Irma Baker, Phil and Natalie Doell and Sharon and David Moritz received an honorable mention for “RSVP.”
Gene Kovack and Joe Gabrosek won the Clapper for Best Entertainment. Roger Havens was runner-up with “The Legend of Santa’s Donuts” and Jenny Young received an honorable mention for “Matched or Unmatched.”
Kovack fondly remembered his friend and co-host Gabrosek who passed away earlier this year.
“He was my co-host all these years,” he said. “Joe and I were proud of the 17 shows we actually did perfectly.”
Gabrosek’s son, Joe Gabrosek Jr., was on hand to accept the awards for his dad.
“My dad was a humble guy,” he said. “But he loved doing this show.”
