Hello, Wadsworth. Well, Thanksgiving is over which means Christmas season is in full swing and there are all sorts of holiday activities going on around town.
I recently chatted with Roni Leatherman about a few fun events that will be happening soon downtown.
Roni and her adorable Corgi, Mr. Finn, are going to be at Manic on Main, 136 Main St., Dec. 14 from 7-9 p.m. for an event called Cookies, Corgis and Christmas Stories.
Children are invited to join Roni and Mr. Finn there for a fun night of stories, cocoa and cookies. Kids are invited to bring a sleeping bag or a blanket and dress in their favorite pajamas. Space is limited, but registration is free. Participating kids are invited to bring a new or gently used coat which will be added to Howard Hanna’s Coats for Kids drive.
Participants can go to Manic on Main’s Facebook page to register or they can call Kristin at Manic on Main at 330-245-6751 if they have any questions.
Roni also filled me in on another fun event for people with pets. The folks from the Wadsworth Community Dog Park will be joining forces with the Wadsworth Brewing Co. for photos with Santa Sunday, Dec. 1.
This event is open to the public and will take place from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Wadsworth Brewing Co.
“We ended up extending it another hour this year because it was so popular in the past,” Roni said.
Roni said Santa will be available for photo ops with families and their pets and added that Tom Stugmyer will be taking photos.
“We will be doing digital only photos this year,” she said. “Last year, we paid to have the photos printed and only half of the people came to pick them up.”
Roni said the event is open to anyone and said the $20 donation from participants will go toward maintaining the dog park.
“Because of the funds we have raised, we were able to put in the wash station this year and we also put up decorative fire hydrants,” she said.
Roni added there will be snacks and refreshments as well as water for the dogs. She said she is hoping officer Seth Petit will show up with his K9 Officer Zoro.
Now, let’s take a look around town.
Search for the Christ Child
First Christian Church will have their 46th annual “Search for the Christ Child” Sunday, Dec. 8 from 5-8 p.m.
This event is a project of the church’s Christian Youth Fellowship who portray the cast of characters on the road to Bethlehem. Shepherds will guide small groups of visitors, stopping along the way to interact with wise men, innkeepers and even King Herod before discovering the baby lying in the manger.
“So much hard work is going in to making this event a great way to kick off the holiday season,” said Ali Miguel, the church’s newly named interim youth minister. “I can’t wait to see our youth in action.”
Visitors are welcome to enjoy refreshments at the “Camelback Inn” before their search.
There is no charge for the event but visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Salvation Army or a monetary donation for Wadsworth FISH.
Cemetery meeting
Anyone interested in volunteering to keep up Woodlawn Cemetery might want to attend the next meeting of Friends of Woodlawn Cemetery which will take place Tuesday Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wadsworth Public Library.
Teresa Merkle, president of Medina Friends of the Cemetery, will present a short program concerning the successes and challenges experienced by their group while working to improve both Spring Grove and Old Town Cemeteries in Medina.
Holiday concert
I recently heard from Carrie Wibble who let me know that the Wadsworth Community Band and Choir will have their annual Christmas Concert Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at O.J. Work Auditorium.
Selections include “Do you Hear What I Hear?”, “When Saint Nick Comes Marching In,” Handel’s “Messiah” and many more.
There will also be a gift raffle and refreshments after the concert. Participants can also take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The event is free and open to the public.
