Speculation still abounds about the upcoming appearance of Gisele Bundchen (inset) in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Just a few days ago the Internet was buzzing about the possibility that Tom Brady’s supermodel spouse would appear in a strange skit in which she’s assaulted and robbed.
But it appears that won’t be part of the show after all.
The Washington Post reports that the show’s creative director, filmmaker Fernando Meirelles, said the press had misinterpreted the scene and described the controversy as a “tremendous misunderstanding.’’
“Imagine us doing a scene like that in the opening,’’ Meirelles said in an e-mail to The Washington Post. “I’m not that clueless.’’
Meirelles said they had been testing out a scene in which a food vendor on the beach rushes up to take a selfie with Gisele. Security guards then pursue the vendor, while Gisele tries to protect him. It was not a robbery, he said.
“It was a gag that was not funny so we cut it,’’ Meirelles said.
