Photographer Don Krohn’s new book, “On Cape Cod,’’ features photographs from across the Cape. Each week in this section we’ll feature one photo from each of the Cape’s 15 towns and Krohn’s descriptions
of his work.
Bell’s Neck Conservation Lands comprise 260 acres of protected open space, the crown jewel of Harwich’s many conserved areas. The views are beautiful, and the lands and waters provide habitat to many species. The preserve includes several miles of hiking trails, as well as ponds and extensive waterways, and the network of creeks and tributaries is perfect for kayaking or canoeing. In the summer heat when I took this photograph, it felt almost like a tropical wilderness in its lush intensity. Four key remaining acres of waterfront around West Reservoir here were just purchased in March of 2016, completing this grand conservation project which began in the 1960s.
