Spring training report

SATURDAY’S WEATHER: Another perfect day at the Fort. It was 84 degrees when the workout ended just after 11 a.m.

FUNDAMENTALLY SPEAKING: The defensive drills for the pitchers included covering first base with a runner on second, the 3-6-1 double play, and fielding bunts to the third base side.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Juan Centeno, who was signed to a minor league deal, could prove important. The 29-year-old catcher has 111 games of major league experience and was on the playoff roster with Houston in 2017. If the Sox trade one of their three major league catchers, which is the plan, Centeno moves up the depth chart. He already looks comfortable working with the pitchers.

SCHEDULE: The position players officially report Sunday and will have their physicals. The pitchers and catchers have their workout at 10 a.m. Manager Alex Cora said it would be a quick one.
