No grounds found for school takeover
CHICAGO — An investigation by Illinois education officials has concluded that the financial condition of the Chicago Public Schools doesn’t warrant intervention by the state. The state Board of Education determined that the system is not in ‘‘financial difficulty’’ as determined by law. Governor Bruce Rauner had called for greater state control of the nation’s third-largest school district. The Legislature ordered a review of the district’s finances in February. (AP)

Rain was heavy at times Saturday, so flash-flood warnings remained in effect. Rain and thunderstorms could continue into Mother’s Day on Sunday. (AP)
