There were some VIPs in the audience during the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s performances at Japan’s Suntory Hall. The orchestra, whose tour of the Land of the Rising Sun kicked off Nov. 3 at NTK Forest Hall in Nagoya, played three concerts at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the crowd at one of them included Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako. (Masako may be familiar with the BSO from her days as a student at Belmont High School and, later, Harvard, from which she graduated in 1985.) The orchestra’s four-city, six-concert tour was the BSO’s eighth trip to Japan, the last time was in 2014 under the direction of Charles Dutoit.
