Strasburg not sure of return
From staff and wire reports

Stephen Strasburg said Saturday “I can’t make that claim’’ when he was asked whether he will pitch again this season. The Washington Nationals star left Wednesday’s start against Philadelphia in the third inning. Tests determined he had a strained flexor mass in his right elbow, which was not related to the Tommy John ligament surgery he had five years ago. ‘‘There’s still pretty much a month left in the season. I’m just trying to get back healthy,’’ said Strasburg, who underwent a platelet-rich plasma injection on his elbow Friday. “Hopefully, we’re still playing baseball.’’ Strasburg started the season 13-0 with a 2.51 ERA. The 28-year-old allowed 19 earned runs in 11⅔ innings in three outings before going on the disabled list, then lasted just three innings in his return. ‘‘Unfortunately this has happened to me so many times that it’s just like, I can just sit here and let it eat at me, which I’ve done in the past and it doesn’t make it any better, so it’s the cards that I’ve been dealt,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m just trying to stay positive and learn from it and work even harder.’’

Indians’ Salazar to skip turn

Indians manager Terry Francona said righthander Danny Salazar will miss his next scheduled start Wednesday against the White Sox. Salazar, who was on the disabled list for elbow inflammation a month ago, was lifted after four innings Friday night against the host Twins after experiencing tightness in his forearm. Francona said Salazar will return to Cleveland on Sunday to be examined by doctors. ‘‘We need to go get him looked at and figure out if and what is going on in there,’’ Francona said.

Richardson out 6-8 weeks

Miami Heat shooting guard Josh Richardson, who partially tore his right MCL on Friday in an offseason workout, said during a prescheduled appearance at a store opening that he was bracing himself to be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks. It was a timetable that virtually ensured his absence from training camp and called into question his availability to start the season. “They said it’s depending on how the rehab and stuff goes, how I approach it,’’ Richardson said. ‘‘But anywhere from like, they said, six to eight weeks, somewhere around there.’’ Richardson averaged 6.6 points in 52 games with Miami last season, but became a key part of the rotation after the All-Star break.

West Ham loses, fans revolt West Ham fans brawled in London’s Olympic Stadium after their team squandered a two-goal lead and imploded in a 4-2 loss to Watford in an English Premier League match. West Ham supporters fought among themselves and clashed with stewards and Watford fans during the club’s league game at its new stadium in east London. West Ham was known for having an organized group of hostile supporters called the ‘‘Inter City Firm,’’ which was active mostly in the 1970s and ’80s and at away games. ‘‘West Ham unreservedly condemn the behavior of the individuals involved in incidents during today’s fixture against Watford,’’ West Ham said in a statement. ‘‘While these isolated incidents were quickly brought under control, this behavior has no place in football and West Ham will work tirelessly to eradicate such incidents.’’ . . . Barcelona, the defending La Liga champion, suffered a stunning 2-1 upset against Alaves. Not even the presence of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Andres Iniesta — all of whom rested in the first half — in the last half-hour could turn around a result that left Real Madrid alone at the top of the table after three rounds . . . Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo needed just six minutes to score in his first match of the season, starting a 5-2 rout of Osasuna.
