After a decade-long search for just the right spot, the Shrewsbury Garden Club has transformed a neglected garden at the side entrance to Town Hall into a sensory experience for the visually impaired. The nonprofit club formally dedicated the Shrewsbury Fragrant Garden at 100 Maple Ave. June 16. State Representative Hannah Kane was on hand to honor the club with a certificate for creating a sanctuary complete with benches and a fountain. On Monday, July 16, the Concord Country Club will host the third annual Household Goods Home in One Golf Tournament. Participants will play on the 18-hole, 6,503-yard championship course at 246 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner to benefit the Acton-based charity, which provides a full range of furniture to people in need. The games begin at noon with a shotgun start and conclude with a dinner announcing the raffle winner of a car. The admission price, which includes lunch, a cocktail reception, and a dinner buffet, starts at $400 and runs up to $10,000. The Natick Center Cultural District is celebrating its 11th ArtWalk Thursday, July 19starting at 5 p.m. Over 60 artists and craftsworkers, including painters, photographers, potters, jewelry-makers, quilters, and glass artists, will showcase and sell their work. Six local bands will also perform at the free event, which will take place at the crossroads of routes 27 and 135. The Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library has partnered with the Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation Department to present Beatles for Sale, an award-winning Beatles tribute band, Wednesday, July 18. Since 2007, the New England-based band has prided itself on recreating the Beatles’ music and has built up a repertoire of over 150 songs. The 6 p.m. outdoor concert at Dean Park, 805 Main St., is free but will be moved to the Shrewsbury Public Library in the event of rain. Arlington Community Media Inc., the town’s community-access studio, honored Leland Stein with the 2018 Executive Director’s Choice award June 15. Stein, the co-owner and manager of the Regent Theatre, was recognized for creating and supporting the arts and culture scene in Arlington. Stein’s efforts to revitalize the 102-year-old theater resulted in appearances there by Steven Tyler, Odetta, and Loretta LaRoche, among others. Stein has managed the theater for the past 16 years. The Bedford Council on Aging has partnered with both Cooperative Elder Services and the Friends of the Bedford Council on Aging to host a Memory Café on July 24. It’s an event meant to serve as a place where friends, caretakers, and those affected by memory-loss diseases like Alzheimer’s or dementia can socialize, listen to music, and play games comfortably. The Bedford Memory Café runs every fourth Tuesday of the month on the second floor of the town center at 12 Mudge Way. This session will include a live musical performance. Sanofi Genzyme, a Cambridge-based biotechnology company, has donated $43,000 to MassBay Community College’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math mentor program for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Wellesley-based program matches workers in those fields with MassBay students, providing them with resources, career-focused events, and opportunities. Students have been paired with mentors from Sanofi Genzyme, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Food and Drug Administration, Winchester Analytical Engineering Center, and other employers.
