Recent bird sightings as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society:

Notable reports last week included single Ross’s geese at Columbus Park in Boston, Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, and on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket; single greater white-fronted geese in Newburyport Harbor, Jamaica Pond, Lake Sabbatia in Taunton, and Sweets Knoll State Park in Dighton; cackling geese at the Wards Fields in Sharon, Lake Sabbatia in Dighton, and Berkley Bridge in Berkley; two sandhill cranes in Rehoboth; and snow owls at Shea Boulevard in Quincy’s Squantum neighborhood, Gooseberry Neck in Westport, and Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven.

Plum Island: Reported from Parker River National Wildlife Refuge were two rough-legged hawks, three black guillemots, two snowy owls, and two brown thrashers.

Saugus: Bear Creek Park sightings included a rough-legged hawk, a snowy owl, three short-eared owls, two peregrine falcons, two American pipits, and three Eastern meadowlarks.

Plymouth: Among the highlights reported on the Plymouth Christmas bird count were a canvasback, two killdeer, a greater yellowlegs, an Eastern phoebe, a clay-colored sparrow, a summer tanager, and three Eastern meadowlarks.

Miscellaneous: Reports included a Eurasian wigeon in Swansea; two Barrow’s goldeneyes at Great Pond in Randolph; and single goldeneye sightings at Deer Island in Boston and Sweets Knoll State Park in Dighton; eight great egrets at Allen’s Pond in South Dartmouth; a laughing gull and six tree swallows on Martha’s Vineyard; a yellow-breasted chat at Egypt Lane in Fairhaven; a Lincoln’s sparrow in Manomet; and 30 rusty blackbirds in Wayland.
