Migrant boat sinks in Mediterranean BENGHAZI — At least eight migrants drowned and dozens were missing after their boat sank off the Libyan coast on Saturday while attempting to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe. Italian officials said 84 people were rescued from the rubber dinghy and eight bodies were recovered. They said they could not confirm a Libyan report that 25 people died when the boat capsized in rough weather. (AP)

Kashmir bombing kills four officers

SRINAGAR— Four Indian police officers were killed Saturday when rebels fighting against Indian rule in disputed Kashmir detonated a bomb on a street the officers were patrolling. Streets were deserted and shops and businesses closed when the massive blast struck the northwestern town of Sopore. The town was marking the 25th anniversary of a massacre in which government forces killed at least 47 people. (AP)

2 airliners collide at Toronto airport

TORONTO — Passengers were forced to evacuate via emergency slides in the frigid cold on Friday night after two planes collided on the ground at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. No injuries were reported. WestJet said an inbound jet from Cancun, Mexico, with 168 passengers and a crew of six was waiting to go to a gate when it was struck by an empty Sunwing plane moving away from a terminal. (AP)

SAUDI ARABIA

11 princes arrested on protest charges

RIYADH — Eleven Saudi princes were arrested on charges of staging a protest at one of the king’s palaces and refusing to leave, the state-linked Sabq website reported Saturday. A division of the National Guard, which is tasked with protecting the royal family, detained the princes. They were sent to Ha'ir prison, a large maximum security facility south of the capital. The princes were protesting a cutoff of utility funding. (AP)
