Sally Yates, the former acting attorney general who was fired in January for not defending President Trump’s proposed travel ban, has been chosen as this year’s speaker for Class Day at Harvard Law School.

Yates (inset), who spent 27 years working in the US Justice Department before being abruptly dismissed by Trump, will speak on May 24 at HLS. She was chosen by representatives of this year’s graduating class.

Though no longer at the Justice Department, Yates remains very much in the news. She was expected to testify earlier this week at a House Intelligence Committee hearing as part of the committee’s probe into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, but the committee chairman, Republican Devin Nunes postponed the hearing. It’s since emerged that the White House may not have wanted Yates to testify.

Kudos to the HLS students who selected her to be this year’s speaker. In case you’re wondering, no, Yates did not attend Harvard Law School. The Georgia native graduated from the University of Georgia — with a degree in journalism — and was a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law.
